Postecoglou: "What will change Tottenham is a trophy, not third place in the league"

He said it and he did it! Angelos Postecoglou had predicted a title in his second season at Tottenham and in the Europa League Final he honored his words and with... more, giving Spurs their first trophy since 2008.

Asked after the final about his - now - infamous statement, the 59-year-old clarified that he did not do it to brag, but wanted to express his belief that Tottenham should openly fight for a title that would change their mentality.

“I want to make something clear: I wasn’t bragging, it was just a statement. I felt that inside me. Finishing third wasn’t going to change this football club, only winning a trophy would change something. That was my ambition. I didn’t expect anyone from the club to say that. I was ready to hear it if it didn’t happen. I was comfortable with that,” he initially stressed, before continuing:

“We needed to win something. Many have attacked the club, but I think many times we haven’t defended ourselves as well as we should. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t believe they can win again next year. That’s what big clubs do,he concluded in his statements immediately after his victory in the final.
